Guidance 46 AMOUAGE Extrait De Parfum

Montale built its name on oud, and its Aoud line is long. This guide helps you work out which direction suits you. Montale is described by retailers as a French niche house, founded in Paris in 2003 by Pierre Montale and nicknamed "the French ambassador of oud." Its Aoud line is the heart of the catalog, with each release pairing oud with something different. That's a lot of choice, and the names don't always tell you what you'll get. This guide groups the best-known releases by style, so you can pick a direction before you narrow down to a bottle. Check the Montale collection page for what's currently listed, and confirm pricing, notes and availability on each product page rather than treating anything here as fixed. For the house's background, see our Montale guide. The Styles at a Glance Fragrance What retailers list Style Black Aoud Mandarin; rose and oud; musk and patchouli (Escentual specifies Cambodian oud and Indonesian patchouli leaves) Classic rose and oud Aoud Night Described by Montale's own text as Malaysian oud with rose and patchouli, the moment when night falls Darker, romantic oud and rose Aoud Leather Bergamot; pepper, cardamom and saffron; leather, ambergris and oud Spiced oriental leather Aoud Forest Lemon and grapefruit on top; described as a forest in a sea breeze Fresh and aromatic Oudmazing Pear and fig; rose and jasmine; oud Fruity Choosing by Taste If you want the classic Black Aoud is the house's signature and the one most people mean when they say "Montale oud." Retailers list rose and oud over musk and patchouli, and Escentual describes it as dramatic but, in its words, "medium bodied and very rich," with a velvety rose and an old-leather feel from labdanum. Other retailers describe far more power, so treat intensity as personal. A retailer comparing it with Intense Black Aoud says the intense version takes the same idea up a notch in presence, sillage and projection, so it's worth looking at both if you like the original. If you want something darker and more romantic Aoud Night is described in Montale's own text as the poetic moment when night falls, with a Malaysian oud and the romance of rose and patchouli. If Black Aoud is classic, Aoud Night is the more nocturnal take. If you like leather and spice Aoud Leather combines bergamot, pepper, cardamom and saffron with a leather, ambergris and oud base, according to a Montale discovery-set listing. It suits people who love warm oriental fragrances and aren't looking for rose. If you're nervous about oud Aoud Forest is the gentle option. A retailer describes it as reminiscent of a forest in a sea breeze, formulated discreetly so that oud skeptics will enjoy it, and the discovery-set listing puts lemon and grapefruit on top. Oudmazing is another softer route, with pear, fig, rose and jasmine ahead of the oud. If rose is what you're after The Aoud line has several rose-led releases, including Aoud Queen Roses. We haven't sourced notes for it, so read the product page before choosing. Tip: Montale's styles vary more than the "Aoud" label suggests. If you can, try a small size first. Esscentum has a Decants collection and Discovery sets, so check whether the fragrance you're considering is offered that way. Practical Things to Know Concentration. Retailers list these as eau de parfum. Confirm the concentration and size on the product page. Packaging. The house is known for simple aluminum bottles. One retailer describes them as light-proof and designed to protect the fragrance from heat and light. Unisex positioning. Several retailers list Black Aoud and other Aoud releases as unisex. Choose by profile rather than label. Counterfeits. High-demand fragrances attract fakes, and a buyer on one marketplace says their bottle didn't match what they smelled in a Montale store. Buy from a retailer you trust. Frequently Asked Questions What is the best Montale Aoud? Black Aoud is the house's best-known release and a common starting point. The best one for you depends on whether you want classic rose and oud, something darker, leathery, or fresher. What is the difference between Black Aoud and Intense Black Aoud? A retailer describes Intense Black Aoud as the same idea taken up a notch in presence, sillage and projection. Check the product pages for how they differ. Which Montale Aoud is best for someone new to oud? Aoud Forest and Oudmazing are described as the softer entries, though styles vary, so sampling is worthwhile. Where can I buy Montale in Lebanon? Ten Mancera releases carry "aoud" in the name, and they smell nothing alike. Here is how to tell them apart. "Aoud" is an alternate spelling of oud, the resinous wood that anchors a lot of Middle Eastern perfumery. Mancera uses it as a family name rather than a promise of one smell. Some of its Aoud releases are bright and fruity, others are spiced and rosy, and one is built around coffee. That variety is what makes the line useful and confusing at the same time. This guide sorts the ten that Esscentum lists by what they're like, so you can narrow your choice before you buy. Confirm current pricing, notes and availability on the Mancera collection page rather than treating anything here as fixed. For context, one German retailer describes Mancera's brief as intensive, highly concentrated perfumes with a mainly Western appeal and some unusual aoud creations. That fits what you'll find: these are often less traditional than a classic oud, and several lean fruity or floral. A Basenotes reviewer adds that Mancera later focused on other favorites such as Cedrat Boisé and Red Tobacco and left ouds mostly to Montale. That's one reviewer's view, but it's a useful reminder that the Aoud line is older, and that styles within it differ. The Ten at a Glance Fragrance What retailers list Mood Aoud Blue Notes (2015) Fruity notes, lemon, green notes, bergamot and mandarin on top; violet, orris, rose, ylang-ylang and patchouli in the heart; guaiac wood, leather, amber, sandalwood and Madagascar vanilla below Fresh and fruity, then warm Aoud Lemon Mint (2016) Mandarin, almond, coriander, lemon and pepper on top; oud, patchouli and jasmine in the heart; vanilla, musk, vetiver, amber and leather below (one retailer adds mint) Citrusy, sweet and woody Aoud Exclusif (2018) Saffron, labdanum, cumin and pepper on top; Bulgarian rose, Indonesian patchouli and violet in the heart; agarwood and oriental notes below Spiced, rosy and dark Aoud Cafe Oud, bitter orange and lemon on top; Turkish rose, patchouli and coffee in the heart Coffee and rose Aoud Violet (2014) Bergamot, spices and green notes on top; violet, patchouli and agar wood in the heart Floral chypre Gold Aoud One retailer lists rose, violet and patchouli in the heart Floral and woody Aoud Line, Aoud Orchid, Sand Aoud, Gold Intensitive Aoud We couldn't source reliable notes Check the product pages Which One to Pick? If you want oud that isn't heavy Aoud Blue Notes and Aoud Lemon Mint are the gentlest entries. Blue Notes opens with fruit and citrus before moving to leather and vanilla. A Basenotes reviewer says it starts with a harsh, leathery oud but settles quickly to a soft, slightly fruity scent, with a vanilla and amber drydown, and calls it very wearable and versatile for an aoud. Another says they don't get much oud at all, and that's a good thing. Lemon Mint is a sweeter, sunnier take, with citrus and almond over oud, patchouli and jasmine. If you want a classic, darker oud Aoud Exclusif is the closest in this group to a traditional oriental. Retailers list saffron, labdanum, cumin and pepper, Bulgarian rose and patchouli, and an agarwood base. It's the one to start with if you like spice and rose and want something more dramatic. If you want something unusual Aoud Cafe puts coffee in the heart alongside Turkish rose and patchouli, and a Basenotes reviewer compares the drydown of Aoud Blue Notes to it, with fruit, leather and musk. Aoud Violet takes a floral route, with violet and patchouli around an oud heart; Notino describes it as a floral chypre and files it under women's, though labels vary by retailer. If you like the Gold releases Gold Aoud and Gold Intensitive Aoud sit in the Gold group, and one retailer lists rose, violet and patchouli in the heart of Gold Aoud. We couldn't source more, so read the product pages before choosing. Tip: Names in this line look alike, and a couple of them (Aoud Line, Aoud Orchid, Sand Aoud) are hard to place without testing. If you can, try a small size first. Esscentum has a Decants collection and Discovery sets, so check whether the fragrance you're considering is offered that way. How to Shop This Line? Retailers list the releases above as eau de parfum. Confirm the concentration and size on each product page. Check the exact product name, since Mancera also has fragrances with similar names that aren't in the Aoud line. Treat reviewer comments as opinion. Performance varies by fragrance and by person. Frequently Asked Questions What is Mancera Aoud? It's a group of Mancera fragrances with "aoud" in the name. They range from fresh and fruity to spiced and floral, so the name doesn't predict the style. Which Mancera Aoud is best for beginners? Aoud Blue Notes and Aoud Lemon Mint are the lighter, more approachable options, based on retailer notes and reviewer comments. Aoud Exclusif is a better fit if you want a classic, spiced oud. Is Mancera Aoud unisex? Retailers differ. Some list Aoud Blue Notes as unisex and others as women's, and Aoud Violet is filed under women's. Choose by scent profile and read the product page. Where can I buy Mancera in Lebanon? Mancera is available online through Esscentum's dedicated collection. Always verify current stock and pricing on the product page before ordering. Xerjoff is one of the most discussed niche houses, and one of the most debated on price. Here is how to decide for yourself. If you're asking whether Xerjoff is worth it, you've probably noticed that opinions are strongly divided. Some owners call a bottle perfection. Others think the hype has outrun the juice. Both camps have a point, and the honest answer is that it depends on what you value. This guide lays out what you're paying for, what owners say about three of the house's best-known fragrances, and a simple way to decide before you spend. We've deliberately left prices out, because they change. Check the live listings on the Xerjoff collection page. The Short Answer Xerjoff is worth it if you love one of its fragrances, will wear it often, and value the presentation. It is a harder sell if you're buying mainly because of the name or the social media buzz. Reviewers who love it tend to talk about longevity, scent character and the bottle. Reviewers who don't tend to talk about hype. Neither view is wrong, which is why sampling matters. What You're Paying For Xerjoff is an Italian luxury house, and its pricing reflects the niche segment rather than the mass market. Several things sit behind that, though some are easier to verify than others. Presentation. One Parfumo reviewer notes that with brands like Xerjoff you're also paying for the brand and presentation, and describes a high-quality leather box and a beautiful bottle. The house's bottles vary by line, and some collections are known for details such as a small piece of meteorite in the 17/17 Stone Label range. Scent character. The fragrances are rich and distinctive rather than generic, and the catalog spans oud, fruity, gourmand, floral and fresh directions. Performance. Many owners praise longevity. That is opinion, not a guarantee, and it varies by fragrance and by person. Exclusivity and brand pull. Part of any niche price is the name itself. That's real value to some buyers and none to others. You'll also find claims online that Xerjoff's prices reflect rare ingredients such as real oud. We couldn't verify those claims from a reliable source, so we're not repeating them as fact. What Owners Say About Three Bestsellers These are individual reviews, so treat them as opinion. We chose three fragrances available at Esscentum. Naxos: loved, and questioned Retailers list bergamot, lemon and lavender on top, cinnamon, honey, cashmeran and jasmine sambac in the heart, and tobacco leaf, tonka and vanilla underneath. One Parfumo reviewer rated its scent, longevity and bottle highly, called it affordable by Xerjoff standards, and described it as the best price-to-performance fragrance in the house, while still scoring pricing 8 out of 10. Another reviewer found its honey and tobacco warmth convincing but called it a little musty and old-fashioned, and felt the social media praise had been cultivated to justify the price. Same fragrance, two verdicts. Erba Pura: strong performance, divisive scent One Parfumo reviewer found the sillage and longevity above average, but disliked a chewing-gum note, scored its pricing 6 out of 10, and felt the fragrance could cost far less. If a fruity, sweet, musky style appeals to you, it may still be worth trying. If it doesn't, no amount of longevity fixes that. Alexandria II: the one owners tend to defend A reviewer who owns the 50 ml bottle describes a warm, spiced opening with apple and cinnamon, then lavender and woods, and a creamy, slightly sweet oud base, with strong longevity. They call the price high but appropriate for the quality. It's an oud-led option from the Oud Stars line, so it suits those who already enjoy that style. A Simple Way to Decide Smell it first. Opinions on Xerjoff are split mainly on scent preference, so sampling beats reading. Ask whether samples or smaller sizes are available for the fragrance you're considering. Work out cost per wear. Divide the bottle's price by the number of times you realistically expect to wear it. A fragrance you reach for weekly is a very different value to one you wear twice a year. Compare similar styles. If you want a warm honey-and-tobacco or an oud-led scent, see how other houses handle it. Our Xerjoff vs Montale comparison are a good start. Be honest about why you want it. If it's the scent, buy it. If it's mainly the label, pause. A note on counterfeits: At least one retailer warns that fakes of popular Xerjoff fragrances such as Erba Pura and Naxos circulate. As with any high-demand niche brand, buy from a retailer you trust and compare the packaging and details on the product page against the brand's own descriptions. Don't judge value on a price that looks too good to be true. Frequently Asked Questions Is Xerjoff worth the money? It depends. Owners who love a specific fragrance and wear it often tend to say yes. Those buying for the brand or hype are more likely to feel disappointed. Sample first if you can. Which Xerjoff offers the best value? One reviewer calls Naxos the best price-to-performance in the house and notes it's affordable relative to others in the range. Another disagrees about whether it justifies its price. Check current prices and decide by scent. Does Xerjoff last a long time? Many reviewers praise its longevity, but this is opinion and varies by fragrance and by person. Read the individual product page and reviews for the one you want. Where can I buy Xerjoff in Lebanon? Xerjoff is available online through Esscentum's dedicated collection. Always verify current stock and pricing on the product page before ordering. Browse the full Xerjoff range and judge for yourself. Browse the Xerjoff Collection

Two houses that sell a story as much as a scent. One takes you to the cellars of a cognac dynasty. The other takes you back to a Sunday morning. Kilian Paris and Maison Margiela Replica are both built on narrative. Neither asks you to think in terms of fragrance families or note pyramids first. They ask you to pick a story, then see how it smells. This guide compares how each house tells its story, what its fragrances are like, and where to start. Esscentum stocks both, with 10 Kilian Paris products and 10 Maison Margiela Replica products. Confirm current pricing, notes and availability on the Kilian Paris and Maison Margiela collection pages rather than treating anything here as fixed. The Estée Lauder Companies acquired the brand in 2016. Its stories lean on heritage and indulgence. Angels' Share, introduced in 2020, is described as his most personal creation, a tribute to his eighth-generation inheritance of cognac-making. The name refers to the portion of a spirit that evaporates while it ages in oak barrels. Old Fashioned takes its name from the classic cocktail, and you can read more in our piece on the man behind Kilian Paris Old Fashioned. Maison Margiela is a fashion house, founded in Paris in 1988 by Martin Margiela. Its Replica line began as garments in 1994 and became fragrances in 2012. Each Replica scent is meant to recreate a specific moment, and the cloth label details the title, place, era and scent theme. The names say it all: Lazy Sunday Morning, Jazz Club, By the Fireplace, Beach Walk, Bubble Bath. These are everyday memories, where Kilian's are more theatrical. Scent Style Angels' Share is the clearest way into Kilian. Retailers list cognac on top, then oak, cinnamon and tonka bean, over sandalwood, praline and vanilla, made with perfumer Benoist Lapouza. It's rich and warming, described as suited to cooler months and evenings, and marketed as appealing to men and women. It's an eau de parfum, and the bottle is refillable. We couldn't source notes for Old Fashioned, Rose Oud, Born to Be Unforgettable, Can't Stop Loving You or Kologne Shield of Protection, so check their product pages. Replica's best-known fragrances are softer and more everyday. Lazy Sunday Morning is listed by Sephora with lily of the valley, iris and white musk, built around clean linen sheets. A Maison Margiela Fragrances spokesperson has said it debuted in 2013 and accounts for over half of the line's global sales, which is the brand's claim. Jazz Club is listed with pink pepper, tobacco leaf and vanilla, and By the Fireplace with chestnuts, vanilla and clove oil. The last two share the warm vanilla register of Angels' Share, just in a lighter, more casual key. Beyond the Bottle Kilian is a more complete luxury ecosystem at Esscentum. The collection includes three scented candles, Tabac Kentucky, Cuir Venise and Jasmin Andalousie, plus a candle stand. The house also sells its fragrances in bottles designed to be kept and refilled. Replica is a fragrance-only line here, but its labels and apothecary-style bottles make the whole range instantly recognizable. If you want a home fragrance alongside your perfume, Kilian is the one that offers it. Which One Suits You? Choose Kilian Paris if You like rich, boozy, gourmand warmth and a sense of ceremony. You care about refillable bottles and want candles in the same family. You want a stronger story of luxury and heritage. Choose Maison Margiela Replica if You prefer relaxed, everyday scents tied to a mood or memory. You like choosing a fragrance by the moment you want to wear it. You'd like a larger set of fragrances to compare. Where to Start With Each These picks are confirmed as listed in Esscentum's catalog, but check current stock before ordering. Kilian Paris: Angels' Share for the cognac story; Old Fashioned if the cocktail idea appeals (check its page for notes); and one of the candles if you want the brand at home. See our Kilian Paris guide. Maison Margiela Replica: Lazy Sunday Morning for something clean and soft; Jazz Club for a warm, tobacco-and-vanilla evening; and By the Fireplace for a cozy chestnut-and-clove scent. See our Maison Margiela guide. Not a verdict: These houses suit different moods more than different budgets. Kilian leans theatrical and luxurious, Replica leans personal and relaxed. If you can, sample one or two from each before committing to a full bottle. Frequently Asked Questions Is Kilian Paris better than Maison Margiela Replica? Neither is better in general. Kilian suits shoppers who want rich, heritage-driven fragrances, while Replica suits those who want soft, everyday scents tied to a memory. What is Angels' Share? One house builds perfume around places. The other builds it around memories. Both are easier to wear than their reputations suggest. Memo Paris and Byredo often end up on the same shortlist because both are modern, design-conscious niche houses with a strong sense of identity, and neither relies on heavy oud or dramatic intensity to make an impression. They approach perfume from different directions. This guide compares their origins, style and range, and helps you decide where to start. Esscentum stocks both, with 30 Memo Paris products and nine Byredo products. Confirm current pricing, notes and availability on the Memo Paris and Byredo collection pages rather than treating anything here as fixed. At a Glance Memo Paris Byredo Origin Paris Stockholm Founded 2007, by Clara and John Molloy 2006, by Ben Gorham Concept "Travel notes": fragrances tied to places Translating memories and emotions into products Signature idea The Cuirs Nomades leather collection A lifestyle brand beyond perfume Ownership Not covered here Puig, which fully owns it after Gorham's 2025 departure Esscentum range 30 products, including hair perfumes 9 products: 7 fragrances, 2 candles Origins and Philosophy Memo Paris was founded in 2007 by Clara and John Molloy. Every fragrance is conceived as a "travel note," tied to a specific place, memory or encounter. That shows up directly in the naming: Inlé is a lake in Myanmar, Marfa is a town in Texas, and the Cuirs Nomades collection explores leather as interpreted by different countries. CaFleureBon reports that the house works with the IFF perfumer Aliénor Massenet as its de facto in-house perfumer, collaborating with Clara Molloy. Byredo was founded in Stockholm in 2006 by Ben Gorham, with the stated aim of translating memories and emotions into everyday products. It has since grown into a lifestyle brand with candles, leather goods and more. Puig took a majority stake in 2022, and Gorham left at the end of June 2025, so Puig now owns the house outright. Is Byredo Really Minimalist? The comparison title calls Byredo minimalist, and the label fits in places. Retailer copy for Blanche describes a minimalist character that invites layering, and a bottle with clean lines and a sculptural form. But two retailers describe the house as standing in contrast to typical Scandinavian aesthetics, drawing on Gorham's Indian background and a broader creative universe. So treat "minimalist" as a description of some products, not the whole house. Memo Paris, by comparison, is more openly narrative: its names are places, and each one tells you where it's headed. Scent Style Memo Paris's leather line makes the house easy to compare with itself. Retailer key notes list juniper and green mate absolute for Irish Leather, green tomato leaf and vanilla absolute for Italian Leather, and lime, rose water essence and a suede accord for French Leather. Moroccan Leather, released in 2018, belongs to the same collection. African Leather lists cardamom and geranium, though Esscentum carries it only as a hair perfume. Beyond leather, Inlé is listed with jasmine, mate and osmanthus absolutes plus bergamot, mint and musk, and Marfa is described by Galeries Lafayette as an addictive white flower with a sunny trail. Byredo's stocked fragrances are quieter and more varied. Blanche is built around Gorham's idea of the color white, and retailers list rose, peony, musk and sandalwood, with one describing the scent as freshly laundered cotton. La Tulipe opens with fresh green notes like cut flower stems, with a tulip heart, vetiver and blonde woods. Bibliothèque is listed by Harper's Bazaar with peach, plum, leather and patchouli, reminiscent of the pages of a book. Eleventh Hour is listed with bergamot, rum and tonka bean, which that magazine describes as a cozy, warm and fruity scent. We couldn't source notes for Mumbai Noise, Eyes Closed or 1996 Inez & Vinoodh, so check their product pages. Range and Format Memo Paris offers far more at Esscentum: standard fragrances across the Cuirs Nomades, Graines Vagabondes, Fleurs Bohèmes and Escales Extraordinaires collections, plus hair perfumes for African, French and Irish Leather and Inlé. Byredo's range here is compact: seven fragrances and two candles, Bohemia and Cotton Poplin. If you like choosing from a big catalog, Memo Paris gives you more to explore. If you'd rather scan a short list, Byredo is easy to take in at a glance. Which One Suits You? Choose Memo Paris if You like fragrances with a clear place-based story. You're drawn to leather in its many forms. You want hair perfume options alongside standard fragrances. Choose Byredo if You prefer subtle, design-led fragrances tied to memory and mood. Frequently Asked Questions Is Byredo more minimalist than Memo Paris? Some Byredo products, such as Blanche, are described as minimalist with clean lines, but the house also draws on Indian influences and a broad creative universe. One house tells an 18th-century royal story. The other sells itself on performance and a dash of provocation. Here is how to choose. Parfums de Marly and Initio Parfums Privés both occupy the confident, high-impact end of niche perfume, and both are popular with shoppers who want fragrances people notice. Their identities are very different, though. This guide compares their origins, style and range, and helps you decide where to begin. Esscentum stocks both, with eight Parfums de Marly products and seven Initio products, so each is easy to scan in one sitting. Confirm current pricing, notes and availability on the Parfums de Marly and Initio Parfums Privés collection pages rather than treating anything here as fixed. Its name comes from the Château de Marly, a royal retreat that the house uses as shorthand for the lavish, festive side of the 18th-century French court. Horses are part of that story: retailer accounts cite the royal passion for breeding them, and the house's bottles carry a design with two horses. Initio went to market in 2015 and presents perfume as something close to a ritual. The name is a Latin word that retailers describe as meaning both "from the beginning" and "to initiate," and the house describes fragrance as having ancient roots in magic and purification. Parfumo says the brand launched seven unisex fragrances after years of research, and that its perfumers work closely with chemists. Sources disagree on where Initio is based. Some retailers call it Parisian, while Parfumo describes it as Dubai-based. A creative director known as Nadia leads it, and retailers say she has kept her background private. Scent Style Parfums de Marly is known for warm, vanilla-led richness. Retailer coverage names Layton, Herod, Delina and Pegasus as the signatures and notes that Layton, Pegasus and Delina share a warm vanilla heart. Of the fragrances Esscentum stocks, Pegasus is described as a composition of fruits, spices and woody notes, and Haltane as starting with a herbal top note before developing into a soft composition with gourmand nuances. Initio's best-known work is bolder and more explicitly seductive. Oud for Greatness, the house's flagship, is described by a French retailer as saffron and nutmeg over a polished agarwood heart with lavender, patchouli and musk, opulent and dark with huge projection. Side Effect is described as saffron, rum and tobacco wrapped in vanilla and cinnamon, warm and heady for cold-weather evenings. Blessed Baraka is listed as boozy woody amber with creamy sandalwood, and Paragon as aromatic herbs and spiced plum grounded by resins. The pattern is rich, noticeable and often boozy or smoky. We couldn't source notes for Can't Get Enough, Power Self or Oud for Greatness Neo, so check their product pages. Concentration and Performance Retailers list all eight Parfums de Marly products as eau de parfum. Initio mixes concentrations: Luckyscent lists Oud for Greatness, Side Effect, Blessed Baraka and Can't Get Enough as eau de parfum, and Paragon and Power Self as extrait de parfum, which is generally more concentrated. Initio is marketed on performance, and the French retailer describes Oud for Greatness as having huge projection, but that's a retailer's claim and individual experience varies, so treat product pages as the guide. Compare current prices on the listings, since niche pricing isn't standardized. Which One Suits You? Choose Parfums de Marly if You like warm, vanilla-led richness with a story rooted in French history. You respond to heritage branding and a recognizable bottle. You prefer a house whose signature names are widely discussed. Choose Initio if You want a bold, oud-, rum- or tobacco-forward statement. You like the idea of high performance and some extrait options. You prefer a unisex house with a more provocative personality. Where to Start With Each These picks are confirmed as listed in Esscentum's catalog, but check current stock before ordering.
